This holiday season, add a festive twist to your sparkling wine with Poinsettas! Poinsettias are wine cocktails made with cranberry juice, sparkling wine, and vodka.
What type of juice to use for Poinsettias?
While plain cranberry juice would work well, I like to add a little extra razzle-dazzle to my drinks by using a blend of cranberry and pomegranate juice. I tend to use the Ocean Spray brand Cran-pomegranate juice.
Do you have to use Vodka for Poinsettias?
Absolutely not. Most of my friends are Tequila drinkers so I swapped out Vodka for Tequila and they all loved them. I worry dark liquor might affect the color of the drink so I advise experimenting with lighter spirits.
How to serve Poinsettias?
Poinsettias can be made in batches by pouring all ingredients into a pitcher. They can also be self-serve by mixing the juice and vodka in a glass carafe and then allowing your guests to pour as much of the mixture as they would like into their individual glasses of sparkling wine. I tend to prefer the self-serve option to give everyone control over how strong they want their drink to be.
When I am really in the holiday spirit, I use a funnel to pour small amounts of the cran-pomegranate and vodka mixture into clear Christmas ornaments. I leave the ornaments on ice and allow my guest to pour the mixture from the ornaments directly into their glasses of sparkling wine, how festive?!
